MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to you today to address a concerning trend circulating on the social media platform TikTok. This challenge encourages students to intentionally damage their school-issued Chromebooks by inserting objects intended to cause an electrical short to cause smoke, sparks, and potential fire. We have become aware of instances within our district where students have participated in this destructive activity, and we want to communicate the potential dangers and serious disciplinary consequences associated with such actions.

Not only would such activity be considered destruction of school property and result in serious disciplinary actions, but the potential fire risk can be deadly.  Therefore, I urge you to have a conversation with your child about the importance of responsible digital citizenship and the serious repercussions of participating in destructive online challenges.

Our goal is to work in partnership with you to ensure all students understand the importance of using technology responsibly. If your child sees or hears of any inappropriate behavior related to this challenge—or any other harmful online trend—we encourage them to report it to a trusted adult at school immediately.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for reinforcing with your children the importance of making safe and respectful choices, both online and in school.

Sincerely,

Christopher McComb
Superintendent
