  • Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD) --
    8181 Professional Place, Suite 201, Landover, MD 20785, (800) 233-4050 Through family support and advocacy, public and professional education and encouragement of specific research, CH.A.D.D. works to ensure that those with ADD reach their inherent potential. Local chapters hold regular meetings providing support and information.

  • ERIC Clearinghouse on Handicapped and Gifted Children, Division of Learning Disabilities --
    1920 Association Drive, Reston, VA 22091-1589. (800) 328-0272. A non-profit membership organization with 17 specific division, DLD is the division dedicated to learning disabilities. Provides free information and holds conferences.

  • Learning Disabilities Association of America --
    156 Library Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15234. (412) 341-1515. The LDA national office has a resource center of over 500 publications for sale; it also operates a film rental service. Call the national headquarters to receive a free information packet and referral to the nearest local chapter.

  • National Center for Learning Disabilities --

NCLD seeks to raise public awareness and understanding, furnish national information and referrals, and arrange educational programs and legislative advocacy. NCLD provides educational tools to heighten the understanding of learning disabilities, including: the annual publications called Their World, quarterly newsletters, informative articles, specific state-by-state resource listings and informative videos regarding learning disabilities.

  • National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities --

NICHCY is an information clearinghouse that provides free information on disabilities and related issues, focusing on children and youth (birth to age 25). Free services include: personal responses, referrals, technical assistance, and information searches.

  • International Dyslexia Association --
         Chester Building, Suite 382, Baltimore, MD 21204. (800) 222-3123. The Society has 42 branches across the country which offer informational meetings and support groups. Referrals are made for persons seeking resources; in addition, the Society publishes journals and publications regarding dyslexia.

    http://www.audible.com. Audible.Com is a for-profit organization that sells an immense library of digital audio books for a fraction of the price of regular audio books. These digital audio books can be listened to on your computer, or transferred onto an audio book player which they sell at an additional cost.

  • Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic --
        20 Rozel Road, Princeton, NJ 08540. (800) 221-4792. A not-for-profit service organization providing educational and professional books in accessible media. RFB&D has an extensive free library of books on audiocassette, covering all subjects from fourth grade through postgraduate. RFB&D's services are available to students with a verified visual, physical, or specific learning disability that substantially limits reading.

  • Talking Books --
        1291 Taylor Street, NW, Washington, DC 20542. (800) 424-8567. Individuals with learning disabilities can borrow "talking books" (books on tape), magazines on tape, and 4-track tape recorders as well. It is important to establish eligibility, call or write NLS and ask for an application.
