The elementary schools have instituted a program of Peer Mediation this year. The Peer Mediation Program is designed
to help students solve minor disputes and problems before they become big problems.
Many students are trained in the peer mediation process as well as professional staff, guidance counselors, and principals of each building.
Two peer mediators in each session try and assist their fellow students in resolving a problem that they are having in school.
Students in the fifth and sixth grade can ask to be peer mediated, referred by an adult in the building, or requested by the
principal to attend a peer mediation session.
Our plans are to monitor the success of the program before we expand it to fourth grade or before we train more peer mediators.
It is our hope that peer mediation process will reduce the number of conflicts among our students.
